Liga - European push by Betis checked after draw with Getafe

Real Betis missed a chance to move level on points with sixth-placed Valencia when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to fellow European hopefuls Getafe in La Liga.

The result at the Benito Villamarin stadium in Seville left Betis in seventh spot on 44 points with nine games left, two behind Valencia and one ahead of Madrid-based Getafe.

"It was an intense match and I think a draw was a fair result," Betis midfielder Jose Canas told Spanish television broadcaster Cuatro.

"The team is in good shape and we can continue on this positive run. I think we deserve it and I hope we can do it," he added, referring to European competition next season.


Los Beticos controlled the ball for 55.2% of the match.

Real Betis had eight shots, including four on target.Adrián stopped seven shots.

The four attempts by Dorlan Pabón were the most of any Real Betis player.

Beñat went off due to injury in the 85th minute and was replaced by Nosa.

Azulones were caught offside on numerous occasions in this game.

The linesman raised the flag against Getafe seven times during the match.

Jordi Codina made four saves for Getafe.

Adrián Colunga had five shots for Geta, more than any of his team-mates.

Alberto Lopo was brought on to replace Rafa in the 58th minute when the latter went down with an injury.
