The Catalans defeated Ajax in their Champions League group stage opener, but saw their Dutch opponents have long periods of possession which often ended in them creating chances.

“There are nuances that we have to improve,” Fabregas reflected afterwards.

“We’re working well and the results are good. We all strive for excellence. I think it will come soon.

“If we can counterattack it’s worth giving it a try. We’re training to improve a couple of things.

“We need to read the games the way the boss wants us to.”

Fabregas has continued moving from position to position under Gerardo Martino and played Wednesday’s game in midfield in place of Xavi Hernandez.

“I’ve played in a couple of positions and the truth is that I feel comfortable. I’m feeling good physically and that’s the most important thing.”
