The Mexico international was spotted in Madrid on Monday morning, and joins Los Blancos on a year-long loan deal with a reported option to buy for £14.25 million (€18m) at the end of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men had long been linked with a switch for Radamel Falcao as competition to Karim Benzema, but with Falcao moving to Manchester United they have gone for the Mexican star instead.

Hernandez joined Manchester United in 2010, but has never esbtalished himself as a regular starter - despite bagging 59 goals in 154 appearances in all competitions since joining from Chivas de Guadalajara.

The player, also known as Chicharito (Spanish for 'little pea'), has also struggled on the international stage of late, losing his spot in Mexico's starting line-up during the World Cup - though he did come off the bench to score in the crucial win against Croatia that put his team in the knockout stage of Brazil 2014.
