Francesco Totti of Roma celebrates scoring against Inter (Reuters)

Roma’s perfect start to the season continued after a first half demolition of Inter gave Rudi Garcia’s side a 3-0 victory in the San Siro.

Roma have now won their first seven games, scoring 20 goals and conceding just one in the process.

Skipper Francesco Totti gave Rudi Garcia’s side the lead after 19 minutes. The Roma forward line worked the ball along their forward line on the edge of the area, and Totti drilled a low shot right into the bottom corner from about 20 yards.

Totti grabbed the second from the penalty spot five minutes before half time. Gervinho chased a long ball down the right, skipped past Esteban Cambiasso and was brought down on the very edge of the box by Alvaro Pereira. The Roma captain thumped the spot-kick to Handanovic's right for Roma to double their lead.

And minutes later it was three. From an Inter corner, Totti tried a couple of impudent keepy-uppies on the edge of his own box and fed Kevin Strootman, who powered most of the length of the pitch, before feeding Alessandro Florenzi on the right of the area, and he arrowed a shot low across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Inter came back into the game in the second half, and indeed had a goal disallowed. Ricky Alvarez swung a cross over from the right, Rodrigo Palacio flicked it on and Morgan De Sanctis grabbed the ball, but Andrea Ranocchia challenged the keeper and the ball went over the line. It wasn’t clear that De Sanctis had full control of the ball, but it was chalked off nevertheless.

The edge was slightly taken off Roma’s win by the late dismissal of Franco Balzaretti. The Italian left-back was given his second booking for a needless sliding challenge on Alvarez. However, Roma were imperious, and sit atop the table with their unblemished record.
