FOOTBALL 2012 Real Madrid - Karanka

Mourinho wants Karanka to join Rui Faria and Silvino Louro in quitting Madrid for the London club but the former Real defender is thought to be mulling over following his old boss to Stamford Bridge.

Karanka has been No 2 to Mourinho at the Spanish giants for the past two seasons and reportedly fancies a move into coaching in his own right.

“Mourinho offered me to go with him but Real Madrid haven’t told me I’m to be released. I’ve still got three years left on my contract and I’d have to pay them to leave," Karanka was quoted as saying by The Sun.

“If I leave then I’ll join Mourinho at Chelsea, or else I’ll go and become head coach at a French top division club,” explained Karanka.

The 39-year-old is a former Madrid player who won three Champions League crowns and one La Liga title with the club between 1998 and 2002, taking charge of the Spanish Under-16 side on retirement before Mourinho made him his assistant in June 2010.

The Sun quotes an unnamed member of Mourinho’s coaching staff as confirming they are on the move to England.

“We are travelling to London on Sunday or Monday when we’ll be presented as Chelsea’s new coaching team," the source said.

“Mourinho wants to enjoy the good relationship he knows he can have in England and which he didn’t have in Spain."
