The coach was dismissed by match officials on Sunday evening for taking protests too far over a turned down penalty call during Villarreal’s defeat at Real Betis.

Whilst Marcelino proclaimed post-match that he did not insult the referee, the Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee have taken issue with his ‘protesting a refereeing decision with arms raised and clapping, having previously been warned several times’.

He is banned for the Yellow Submarine’s next two League fixtures, at home to Granada on Friday and away to Athletic Bilbao later in the month, with the club having no plans to appeal.

Meanwhile, Osasuna have seen midfielder Alvaro Cejudo banned for three matches.

Whilst the player was dismissed in Week 7’s home defeat to Levante for two yellow cards, the Competition Committee have ruled to extend his automatic one-game ban by a further two for insulting the match official.

Week 8 sees Alberto Botia suspended for one game for an accumulation of yellow cards, whilst Juan Cala is out of Sevilla’s next game for his two yellows picked up against Real Sociedad.
