AS reports Pirlo’s Press conference last night at which the Juventus midfielder rated Spain as one of the competition favourites, but spoke well of the Azzurri’s chances.
“We can win the World Cup. I always play to win. This team has all it needs to reach the final,” he said.
“We’re testing the double pivot, a defensive midfielder with two free to create. It’s a possibility that we like. It’s a return to our routes, as some say, a rotation of midfield.”
Italy begin their tournament on Saturday against England, with Pirlo saying Italy are prepared for the Three Lions, who, he warns, are dangerous opponents.
“They’re a great team, improved and rejuvenated,” he added. “We know how to approach the game. But they also play good games.
“It will be my last tournament. I want to make room for other players. I’m not sure I’ll be happy after leaving the national team,” the 35-year-old lamented.
