Cristiano Ronaldo y Arbeloa celebran un gol ante el Atlético

Two early penalties from Cristiano Ronaldo sealed Real Madrid’s place in the Copa Del Rey final as they emerged 2-0 winners over a depleted Atletico Madrid.

With Diego Costa and David Villa ruled out for Atletico Diego Simeone’s men were always up against it to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg, but any hopes of a fight back were extinguished when Ronaldo scored twice within 17 minutes.

The results means Real Madrid are likely to face rivals Barcelona in the final, with the Catalans leading 2-0 in their semi-final against Real Sociedad

Real Madrid took just seven minutes to open the scoring on the night, with Ronaldo converting from the spot after being brought down in the box by teenage fullback Javier Manquillo.

And Los Blancos were afforded another opportunity from the penalty spot, when Emiliano Insua felled Gareth Bale. Ronaldo stepped up again to find the bottom corner of the Atletico net and make it 2-0.

Simeone made a couple of changes at the break, bringing off Manquillo and Diego for the more experienced pair of Juanfran and Adrian Lopez.

However, the changes failed to have any real impact on the contest with Real Madrid strolling to a comfortable 2-0 win on the night.

7’ GOAL! – Ronaldo is brought down in the area by Manquillo, giving the referee an easy decision. From the spot the Portuguese winger makes no mistake, finding the bottom corner with a powerful shot.

13’ WOODWORK – Atletico come so close to leveling the score on the night! Garcia lines up a shot from the edge of the box and rattles an effort off the inside of Casillas’ post.

16’ GOAL! – Real Madrid have been awarded another penalty! This time Bale was brought down by Insua on the opposite wing, but the end result is the same, with Ronaldo stepping up to fire home from 12 yards.

74’ HASTY – Ancelotti’s side pass up a chance to make it 3-0. Aranzubia makes a good save from Ronaldo at the back post but when the ball rebounds to Arbeloa he takes forever to take a shot and is eventually challenged.

76’ CHANCE – Big chance for the home side to at least restore some pride! Koke whips a great corner kick into the six-yard box, where Suarez is unmarked, but somehow he manages to put his header wide of the target.

Real Madrid have become the first club in the history of the Copa Del Rey to keep eight consecutive clean sheets.

Real Madrid are also the first time in the history of the competition to reach the Copa Del Rey final without conceding a goal.

Iker Casillas has now gone over 800 minutes without conceding a goal.

Have Atletico Madrid snapped? Having suffered just one defeat all season Atletico have now lost three consecutive games in all competitions. Injuries and suspensions to key players like David Villa and Diego Costa have hit them hard and now Simeone must find a way to reinvigorate his side quickly.

Isco, Real Madrid - The Spanish playmaker has struggled to nail down a position in Ancelotti’s starting lineup this season, but he was given a free role along the front three against Atletico and allowed some good interchanging play between Bale and Ronaldo, linking up midfield with attack.

Atletico Madrid – Aranzubia 5, Manquillo 3, Alderweireld 5, Miranda 5, Insua 3, Koke 5, Suarez 5, Sosa 6, Diego 4, Rodriguez 4, Garcia 4. Subs – Juanfran 5, Adrian 4, Gabi 4.
