Schuster was unhappy with the decision of referee Mateu Lahoz to send off Sergio Sanchez and award a penalty to Rayo, duly converted by Joaquin Larrivey to make it 3-0 before half-time.

Iago Falque, having opened the scoring, added a second just past the hour mark with Oleksandr Iakovenko scoring a late consolation. Anaitz Arbilla was Rayo’s other goal scorer.

“It’s easy to analyse the game,” Schuster told his post-match Press conference.

“We didn’t turn up in the first-half. From the first moments we weren’t in the fight and it became clear how the game was going to go.

“We made it too easy for them and our attitude wasn’t right. Hopefully that’s the last time it happens.

“We weren’t up for the challenge and we were playing at half speed. Nothing is given to you and you have to sweat until the last moment.”

Despite his criticism of his team, Schuster still hit out at Lahoz, who he claimed saw incidents no one else did.

“Our fried Lahoz got involved and when something happens he enjoys engaging.

“The penalty was invented, cards and everything. Terrible.”
