The central defender was offered a new deal at La Rosaleda after his original contract expired on July 1.
However, after negotiations, the German coach has admitted that the Argentine will leave the Andalusian side.
“Our offer has been answered,” he told a press conference. “We would have liked him to continue as he's a respected and important part of this team.
“But it seems that our ideas are different and we must accept that.
“Now we must find a replacement.”
Schuster also commented on his side's need for a new striker this summer.
“Players want to come to Malaga. And we need someone who can score goals.
“We need to get someone in who is quality in front of goal.”
