Victor Hedman was seemingly omnipresent for the Tampa Bay Lightning, so it’s only fitting he scored the series-winner against the Boston Bruins, eliminating his divisional rival in double overtime.
Hedman fired a wrist shot through a Pat Maroon screen, which trickled through Jaroslav Halak’s arm and in, to seal a 3-2 Lightning victory.
Here is the winner:
Hedman logged a game-high 38:25 in Game 5 and excelled for the Lightning in all situations throughout the series, carrying an increased workload with Ryan McDonagh missing three games due to injury.
It’s a scary thought for the rest of the competition, but the Lightning beat the Bruins in five games without their captain Steven Stamkos. Tampa Bay could also be without reigning Hart Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov, who left Game 5 with an undisclosed injury.
In the interim, Hedman is making his mark on the playoffs with five goals thus far as this iteration of the Lightning advance to their fourth conference final under Jon Cooper, with hopes of finally lifting the Cup that has heartbreakingly eluded them.
