The incident occurred after Nancy went down 3-1 at home in a fiery clash at Stade Marcel Picot, and after reviewing CCTV footage police have arrested 10 and kept eight in custody.

“Several stewards were assaulted, some of whom were punched,” Nancy police’s chief commissioner Denis Kotnik told AFP. “We have been able to identify the suspects thanks to video images.

Around 50 supporters stormed the Nancy dressing room, with goalkeeper Guy Ndy Assembe reportedly punched. He has not pressed charges.

But the club and its stadium staff launched a complaint, with police adding that they had little trouble finding the attackers.

“The arrests of the suspects, aged between 19 and 40 years, were completed without difficulty,” Kotnik added.

The defeat left Nancy at the bottom of Ligue 1, where they remain after drawing their subsequent match 3-3 at Troyes.
