The visitors opened the scoring on 21 minutes thanks to Turkish striker Mevlut Erding's effort but they were pegged back five minutes after the break when Simon Zenke swooped to restore parity.

Romain Alessandrini fired Rennes back into the lead on 74 minutes but Nancy again put themselves into a position to get back on level terms when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute.

Paul Alo'o Efoulou stepped up but he missed and the moment proved to be the turning point of the match as, two minutes later, Jonathan Pitroipa made it three for Rennes.

There was no way back for Nancy after that and they remain rooted to the bottom of the table having picked up just five points from 12 games so far this season.
