Torquay boss Martin Ling expressed his delight as the Gulls soared to fourth in npower League Two following a 1-0 win - their sixth successive victory.
Central defender Mark Ellis seemed to get the final touch to help recalled target man Taiwo Atieno's 68th minute goal-bound header over the line.
"I have watched the video twice now and Taiwo Atieno heads it into the ground and Mark Ellis takes a big swipe at it and I don't know whether he touches it or not. I don't really care all I know it's 1-0," Ling said.
"All I do know is that we have got another win under our belts and it's against a side that are going to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. I don't know who will be in the top three but I think that Shrewsbury will be top seven and people will be talking about us as a top seven side now as well.
"There's still an awful long way to go until the end of the season. All the questions we have been asked, we have managed to put to bed. I always say that if a team has got quality within them - which Shrewsbury definitely have - then it allows us to counter-attack and break on them as well.
"I think we are better against the better teams that come here because it gives us a chance to open them up as well."
Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner admitted: "It was a big disappointment. I thought the goal was messy, we should have done better defending the corner. We had a lot of the ball in the second half but never really produced a telling cross or pass. It's a disappointing outcome because we gave the ball away far too easily at times when we were in a good area.
"Overall we have got to be disappointed with our forward display when we were in good areas. We had a lot of the ball and to be fair we got in decent areas as well in wide positions but never produced any sort of cross that was going to trouble them too much. Second half we had a lot of ball without looking convincing.
"The goal was a shambles. People have got their jobs to do, they are assigned people to mark and we have got one player who has lost his man and it was bit of a shambles when the ball came back into the middle.
"We should have cleared it, we had plenty of opportunity to have done that but from our point of view it's a really messy goal - and that makes it doubly disappointing."
