LIONS midfielder Maikel Keiftenbeld is reportedly set for a return for his homeland and sign for Dutch side FC Emmen when his contract expires.

Millwall had been in negotiations with Kieftenbeld over a new deal but he is set to become a free agent at the start of July.

It is now believed that he will return to the Netherlands as RTV Drenthe Sport have reported that he will join the newly-promoted top-flight side.

Emmen won the Eerste Divisie title last season competing alongside Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord next season.

Kieftenbeld, speaking to the South London Press in late April, said: “I spoke to the club during the season and they told me they would look at it at the end of the season, which is fair enough.

“I can understand – there are more important things than Maikel Kieftenbeld at the moment because we are pushing for the play-offs.

“I’m confident the club or the manager will get in contact with me at the end of the season about my future.

“I’m not from England and there will be a time that I go back to Holland to be around my family and friends a bit more.

“I know I love England, I love the Championship and I love Millwall – the fans and the people who work here. I’m really enjoying it.

“When I first signed for Birmingham, I never thought I would stay this long in England but it is just the people, the clubs, the fans and the whole atmosphere in the stadiums. First I saw it at Birmingham and now I see it at Millwall.”
