Lions grapplers end regular season with tie-breaking win

Jan. 25—SHELBYVILLE — The Lion wrestling team closed out the regular season with a down-to-the-wire victory over the Shelbyville Golden Bears 40-39.

After all the matches were completed, the teams were even at 39-39. On the tie-breaker, the Lions pulled out the victory by getting the most first scored points in the matches wrestled. This is the ninth tie-breaking criteria, giving Rushville the extra point to win 40-39.

"We are always pleading with our wrestlers to be confident and aggressive when they walk onto the mat. We want them to have the confidence to score first. This situation at Shelbyville proved how important that really is. Tonight it paid off," Coach Tush said. "Most of our wrestlers wrestled well, but we still have a ways to go to wrestle to our potential consistently."

The Lions complete the regular season at 22-11, with four losses coming to Class 6A and 5A schools during one invitational.

"We have one tough week of practice left until sectional. We need to make the most of every minute. Our sectional will be hosted by South Dearborn Saturday," Coach Tush added.
