India’s bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has expressed that he is a little disappointed to not be a part of India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup. The selectors announced India’s 15-member squad last week, with Shardul and two others in the reserves for the tournament.
Shardul has represented India in 22 T20Is and has taken 31 wickets, including a four-wicket haul. He has also scored 69 runs, in five innings, at a strike rate of 197.14. In an interaction with the Times of India, Shardul Thakur stated that he is a little disappointed to not get picked for the T20 World Cup, but has to be ready as he is in the reserves and may get a call at any moment. Thakur said:
“Yes. I am a little disappointed. It’s everyone’s dream to play and win the World Cup for your country. If you talk about the Oval Test, then yes, it was red-ball format. But if you see, I have done well in both the departments in white-ball cricket too over a period of last two years. Now I’m a part of the reserved for the World Cup, so I guess I have to be ready. I can get a call-up at any moment.”

“It’s quite surprising” – Shardul Thakur on Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as T20 Captain
Indian skipper Virat Kohli announced that he will step down as India’s T20 Captain following the ICC T20 World Cup later this year. The decision was taken by considering the workload of the skipper in all three formats.
Shardul Thakur has expressed that he wishes Kohli would have continued but added that the skipper has done his job for the country. The all-rounder said,
“It’s quite surprising. I wish he had continued, but he has done the job for India since the past few years. So according to him, maybe it’s time to move on as the India T20 captain. I haven’t had the opportunity to speak to him. I would like to congratulate him on his time as the India T20 captain, but only after we win this World Cup. Till the, he is still our captain.”
