Curtis Jones has described becoming a father as a "different type of joy" as the Liverpool midfielder capped a dream week with the winning goal in the victory over Chelsea at Anfield. Jones put in a man of the match display, winning one penalty for Mohamed Salah to score and then netting the winner from the Egyptian's pass in the second half.

Jones became a father just six days ago when his partner Saffie Khan gave birth to a baby girl, Giselle. And after an evening in the spare room, the 23-year-old had enough energy to dominate Chelsea's £150m duo Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jones described his new daughter as a "little dream".

He said: "It's the best thing ever, I'm playing with a smile on my face. It's a different type of joy.

"I was in the spare room (last night)! But she's a little dream, she wants a feed and change and back asleep. So I wouldn't have missed much sleep anyway. But I thought it was wise (to sleep in the spare room). So I had some energy. Sorry dads around the world!"

Jones had an eventful afternoon at Anfield, winning Liverpool a penalty for Salah to convert after a trip from Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. He then thought he had another after colliding with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, only for referee John Brooks to overturn the decision after consulting the pitchside monitor.

But Jones wouldn't be denied and he latched onto Salah's cross to score Liverpool's winner just minutes after Nicholas Jackson had equalised for the visitors.

On his display, he said: "The most important thing is that we came away with the win.

"You know how important he (Cole Palmer) is for the whole of their team. So I had in my mind that if I can keep Cole quiet, then that's a huge part of their game gone. He didn't score or assist so I'm happy.

"Once you play in this teams you have to run, you have to have energy, you need goals and assists. As a centre-mid you've got to go and press, get back and help out."

On the two penalty decisions he said: "(For the first one)I played the ball, I made a run and the ball was there. I never dive. I felt the contact so I went down and it was a penalty.

"(Second) I've not seen it. I didn't feel a trip. I know he came and we collided. But I've not seen it back."
