Liverpool 2 - 2 Newcastle United

It was yet another hard fought point against one of the top, in-form, sides in the Premiership but is this fight all coming a little too late? I had us down to get no points from the Manchester City and Liverpool games but as it stands we have two and on a three match unbeaten run. Is survival on the horizon? A lot depends on the game today.

When Newcastle United conceded after a little over a minute I feared the worst and must confess I could not watch any more when Adam Lallana scored the second. We were never in the game at all and this is an all too familiar sight for us magpies fans - a script we already know, 2-0 down after 20 minutes, this would end 5 or 6 nil.

What isn’t a familiar sight is the manner of the comeback; the players had belief in themselves, they had the desire and fight needed to come back and just a little bit of luck thrown in too. This is down to Rafa, end of story.

I had to go and pick the kids up at half time and as I was driving down the coast road I saw the participants of a car erupt next to me; I quickly switched on the radio (I have this superstition thing in that I never listen to a match on the radio as I have never, ever heard us score for over a year - I only hear goals against - silly I know!) and it was 2-1. Cisse. Get in!

By the time I had got home it was 2-2 thanks to a heavily deflected Jack Colback shot and I managed to brave watching the last 25 minutes (I’m such a trooper…) in which we were pretty comfortable.

A win would have been fantastic, a draw is a huge, huge bonus, a defeat would have been expected. What this draw has done though is to keep our momentum going. A defeat wouldn’t have been the end of the world but it would have been a real kick in the stomach given the way we came back.

Today sees Sunderland at home to Arsenal, a game which every single Newcastle United fan will be throwing their support behind Arsenal for. This isn’t a derby thing, this is all about survival now and Newcastle require an Arsenal victory without a doubt. A Sunderland win will make our chances of survival almost impossible.

Arsenal find themselves in the top 4 but in the midst of some kind of revolt against their highly successful manager Arsene Wenger. I don’t get that one bit but for today I hope they get behind their team and help them gain a crucial victory for their side, as well as mine.
