Liverpool have agreed a world-record transfer fee for a goalkeeper with Roma for Alisson Becker.

The Reds tabled a bid of £62million for the Brazilian on Tuesday but were knocked back by the Serie A giants.

However, Jurgen Klopp is determined to land the shot-stopper and raised the offer to £66.8million to meet Roma’s valuation for the player.

Liverpool will now have permission to try and agree personal terms with the World Cup star and then carry out a medical.

Chelsea have also been linked with Alisson as they prepare to replace Thibaut Courtois following reports of a fee being agreed with Real Madrid.

He is keen to return to Spain, where he once played for Atletico Madrid, to be closer to his children.

But Liverpool remain the frontrunners for Alisson after racing to the front of the queue with these latest developments.

Should the deal go through, the Brazil No. 1 would become the most expensive keeper in history after moving ahead of compatriot Ederson, who cost Man City £36million.

Klopp needs a new man between the sticks as concerns remain over Loris Karius in the wake of his embarrassing performance in the Champions League final in Kiev.

Liverpool’s other senior keeper, Simon Mignolet, is expected to push for a move away from Anfield after falling out of favour under the German coach.
