Liverpool and Arsenal have been dealt a blow as West Ham would reportedly ‘agree’ to a ‘sensational swap deal’ to let Declan Rice join Man City.
West Ham have done pretty well to keep Rice as long as they have as he’s rightly considered to be one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.
The 23-year-old has shone as the Hammers have challenged for Europe in recent seasons and he also impressed for England at the World Cup last year.
The Hammers look to be in a relegation battle this season and the player recently admitted that he is desperate to play in the Champions League.
With that, the club and player have seemingly come to the realisation that a transfer is likely to happen in the summer.
Rice has often been linked with Chelsea as he played for the Londoners as a teenager.
Liverpool have also been linked as they look to strengthen in midfield. While it was claimed earlier this week that Arsenal have made a ‘huge offer’ to sign him. It is understood that he will cost around £75m in the summer.
TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey has indicated that Rice is “Chelsea bound as it stands”.
“We are now entering the end game for Declan Rice, West Ham United have accepted that he is leaving this summer,” Bailey told TEAMtalk.
“Rice has served West Ham well, but he is accepting that he needs to move on and so are West Ham – despite what may be said publicly.
“And for me Rice is now ready and whilst a deal is not confirmed, at the moment I don’t see him going anywhere other than Chelsea. His beloved club from a youngster, I believe he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.
“I do expect others to show an interest – Liverpool are going to be rebuilding their midfield and surely they will show an interest.
“Arsenal have also been linked and it is clear Rice could very well have his pick of clubs. But as I said, he will be Chelsea bound, as it stands.”
This has been disputed by Football Insider, though.
They are reporting that West Ham ‘would be willing to agree’ to a ‘sensational cash-plus-player swap deal’ involving Rice and Kalvin Phillips.
Hammers boss David Moyes is a ‘big admirer’ of Phillips and they were linked with him last year before he joined Man City for £45m.
The report does not state whether Man City would be keen on this proposal. They are seemingly putting two and two together amid Phillips’ difficult start under Pep Guardiola.
The former Leeds United man has missed much of this campaign through injury and following the World Cup, Guardiola outed the midfielder as being “unfit”.
The Spaniard has since defended Phillips and the 27-year-old has made a couple of cameo appearances off the bench for City.
