Real Madrid is reportedly considering Diogo Dalot as an alternative target to Trent Alexander-Arnold, as uncertainty continues to linger around the Liverpool right-back's Anfield future.

Alexander-Arnold is into the final seven months of his current Liverpool deal and will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with Madrid from January 1 ahead of becoming a free agent next July.

Madrid is currently contesting with something of an injury crisis in defense and is currently without a recognized right-back after Dani Carvajal sustained a horrific knee injury in October.

Lucas Vazquez and Federico Valverde have deputized for Carvajal in recent games, but Madrid is said to be keen to dip into the transfer market in January in order to sign a more orthodox right-back.

According to Spanish outlet relevo, Alexander-Arnold remains Madrid's No.1 target for next summer but the Spanish giant feels that the chances of him signing a contract extension at Liverpool have increased of late, so it has reached out to Manchester United to enquire about Dalot.

United is said to have informed Madrid that it will take an offer of at least $53million to tempt it to sell Dalot in January. Dalot has established himself as a regular for United in recent seasons, featuring more than 110 times since the start of the 2022-23 season.

Dalot has figured in each of United's three games under new manager Ruben Amorim and was praised by the Red Devils' new head coach ahead of their win over Everton on Sunday.

"He’s very powerful," Amorim said of Dalot. "We have to rotate him sometimes because although he always looks fresh, it’s not like that, he’s not a machine. He’s a very good player. He’s better on the right and we will play him there more [but] nowadays a player who can play on both sides is perfect because you can put him in different positions.

"I expect the same as you saw last season. A great player who can help the team. He's really a team player, you can feel it in the way he lives the game, so he’s very important for us."
