Liverpool boss Arne Slot has heaped praise on Ange Postecoglou and believes Tottenham have been "unlucky" this season.

Spurs have endured a mixed first half of the campaign so far. They sit 10th in the Premier League table after 16 matches, have progressed through to the Carabao Cup semi-final and are ninth in the Europa League. In total, Postecoglou's men have won 13 and drawn four of their 25 games across all competitions.

A lack of consistency is the best way to describe Tottenham's season, and that was demonstrated in abundance during their 4-3 win over Manchester United on Thursday. Spurs were excellent going forward and scored some superb goals, but were comical in defence and gifted United a route back into the game.

Tottenham stormed into a three-goal lead thanks to Dominic Solanke's brace and a neat finish from Dejan Kulusevski and looked in cruise control to ease into the next round. However, Ruben Amorim's side fought back as Fraser Forster gifted them a lifeline, giving the ball away in the build-up to their first goal before Amad Diallo pounced on a delayed clearance from the Spurs goalkeeper to deflect home United's second.

Fortunately for Tottenham, they managed to score a fourth through Son Heung-min's direct corner, though Jonny Evans netted a consolation for United in stoppage-time to make the final couple of minutes tense.

Next up for Tottenham is a home game against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday and Reds boss Slot has delivered his verdict on Spurs and Postecoglou. He said in his press conference: "They are consistent in their style and for me they are a bit unlucky, they dominated against Manchester United and they always like to attack and he plays with three attackers and full-backs join so much.

"For me, yesterday was unlucky. Second goal keeper wanted to kick it away and it's still a goal. 4-3! Not many season ticket holders in the country can say they watch so many great games, it's a privilege for them, such a great style. Ange has arrived and they were not a club who loads before him. Maybe some sympathy of fans because of the style of play and you cannot underestimate them. I think about their style, identity and certain players.

"I said so many positive things about Ange so if I say another thing it seems like I am his agent! But I like how he presents things in the media. So I heard he likened the job to being the Prime Minister. Being judged every time. I think it is right people talk about the decisions managers make than a decision a Prime Minister makes, but it's also true a Prime Minister decisions are more important than ours."
