What has been Mohamed Salah’s secret this season? When the Egyptian winger returned to the Premier League last summer for £37m few would have predicted how well he would have got on.

Having flopped at Chelsea in 2014, Salah headed to Italy for 18 months to rebuild his career at Fiorentina and then from Roma and second time around in England has gone on to score 40 times in 45 appearances.

And now it has been revealed what Jurgen Klopp told the Liverpool new boy at half-time on his debut at Watford back in August that set the tone for a season that has culminated in a record amount of goals, a PFA Team of the Year nomination and potentially more awards and trophies on the horizon.

According to Goal.com, with Liverpool 2-1 down to Watford, Klopp pulled new boy Salah to one side to remind him of the pre-season work they had done on his positioning.

The Reds coaching team had done extensive work with the Egyptian winger to play on the inside instead of out wide, the idea being that Liverpool’s full-backs would provide width while Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane exploited the space through the middle.

But on a sunny day at at Vicarage Road, Salah spent the first half trying to play wide and high. A quiet work from Klopp reminding him of the pre-season plans during the break worked wonders.

Playing more narrow in the second half, Salah started to influence the game, winning a penalty which was scored by Firmino, before prodding one over the line himself in a thrilling game that ended 3-3.

And Salah hasn’t looked back, and has gone on to have one of the best seasons in the Premier League by a new arrival – by any player – ever.
