Liverpool boss Klopp content with 'good' Can contract talks

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool are in "good talks" with Emre Can and is confident the midfielder wants to stay at Anfield.

The 23-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £9.75million in 2014, is out of contract at the end of next season.

Can saidthis week that negotiations over a new deal did not hinge onmoney after reports claimed a previous round of talks broke down due to his £100,000-per-week wage demands.

And Klopp is also optimistic Can wants to stay at Liverpool for the long-term, with discussions still taking place.

"Yes, we are in talks," said Liverpool boss Kloppahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to play Manchester City.

"They are good because Emre likes to be here. We really like him as a person and as a player. So there are talks, there is nothing else to say.

"It actually makes no sense to talk about it, but because I obviously heard there was a story out there [I will].

"Until the final year starts – there are a few months still – no problems, absolutely no problems.

"Completely good talks [have been] held with a lot of other players and if there is something to say about it we will be the first."

Can scored the winner in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Burnley last Sunday, his first goal of 2017.

Klopp's side have won three of their last four matches going into the City clash.
