Liverpool boss Klopp plans to use ‘information’ to get Wolves revenge in ‘super important week’
Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool can still make the top four ahead of a “super important week” in the race for Champions League qualification.
The Reds host Wolves at Anfield on Wednesday night before they welcome arch-rivals Manchester United to Merseyside on Sunday in two Premier League matches.
Liverpool are currently sitting in seventh position in the Premier League table after their goalless draw with Crystal Palace over the weekend.
Klopp’s side are nine points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham but they crucially have two games in hand on Antonio Conte’s men.
When asked whether their experiences of the 2020/21 season, in which Liverpool had to come back from a significant points deficit to finish in the top four, will stand them in good stead, Klopp replied: “It helps because it was us. We don’t have to say it was another team.
“But you can’t constantly rely on history, that we did it before. I really see we have the right mindset. We are ready to go. Now we have to do it.
“I really think we are ready. If there’s a club who can do it, it is us. What have achieved we achieve together. We have a future together, a bigger picture. We will strike back in general but have to squeeze everything out of this season.”
Liverpool were thrashed 3-0 by Wolves at Molineux earlier in February but Klopp insists they now “have important information” on their opponents that they can use to their advantage.
Klopp said: “We have important information from that game we need to use. We have to focus on ourselves. The main difference is we will play at Anfield and we have to make that count.
“Not a cool day. Main difference is we play at Anfield. It’s a long period between games. We want to put it right, yeah. But I am more focussed on giving the season a proper push. We need to find a steady mood.”
Klopp added: “It is a super important week, we cannot ignore that. We have two home games, and tomorrow only one. I would love to give the season a little push in this week and we need results for that and for results we need good performances.”
Virgil van Dijk, who has come in for criticism this season, was named in the 2022 FIFA FIFPro Men’s World XI on Monday night and Klopp thinks it was fully deserved.
Klopp insisted: “It wasn’t based on the last four or five performances, but on the last year and it’s fully deserved. He asked if he could go and I said of course. He was back last night. It’s great.”
On Van Dijk’s form in general, Klopp added: “It’s completely normal. People once believed you need as long as you’re out to get back to your best. Thank god that’s not the case. You will arrive at your best again.”
