Kareem Ahmed continued his impressive run of form to spark a Liverpool comeback and help book their place in the Under-18 Premier League Cup quarter-finals. Ahmed scored the equaliser as the young Reds came from behind to win 3-1 at Birmingham City in their final group game at the Knighthead Training and Academy Grounds on Saturday afternoon.

With Arsenal having lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace on the same day, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side were able to finish top of the group on goal difference from both London teams.

They had to do it the hard way on a stormy afternoon in the Midlands, however, after Kaidon Robinson put the hosts ahead on 15 minutes and then missed an opportunity to double the lead.

Liverpool made Birmingham pay with two goals towards half-time. The first, on 41 minutes, saw Ahmed on the mark before Josh Sonni-Lambie converted from the spot four minutes later.

With the conditions making life difficult for both teams, the visitors were able to seal the victory and progress to the last eight with a Joe Bradshaw goal three minutes from time.

Liverpool are next in action on Wednesday when an U19 side takes on Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League at Kirkby (kick-off 3pm).

LIVERPOOL U18s (4-2-3-1): Hall; Furnell-Gill, Airoboma, Enahoro-Marcus, Evers; O’Connor, Ewing; Bradshaw, Ahmed, Ngumoha; Sonni-Lambie.
