Liverpool Champions League draw confirmed: Who will they play in last-16 stage

Liverpool face arguably their toughest Champions League test as Real Madrid lie in wait in the last-16 stage, a repeat of last season’s final.

The Reds were braced for a tough draw after being the only English team to finish second in their group, and Madrid were likely the one team they wanted to avoid.

Fews sides have got the better of Liverpool in the Champions League of late, except the Spanish giants who have twice beaten them in finals - in 2018 and 2022 - and in 2021 knocked them out in the quarter-finals.

Vinicius Junior scored the only goal in Paris six months ago to once again deny Liverpool, making it five defeats in their last six meetings for the Reds.

The last-16 first legs will take place across 14-15 and 21-22 February, with the second legs set to be played over 7-8 and 14-15 March.

Liverpool will host Madrid in the first leg before flying out to Santiago Bernabeu for the decider.
