Liverpool defender set for lengthy injury absence after 'unfortunate' setback
Liverpool loanee Calum Scanlon is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines following another injury setback. The teenage left-back, who joined Millwall on a season-long loan last month, has suffered a recurrence of a back injury that has previously kept him out of action for extended periods.
Scanlon, who made his Championship debut from the bench in Millwall's home defeat to Luton Town last week, has now returned to Liverpool for treatment and is not expected to be fit until November at the earliest.
Millwall head coach Neil Harris confirmed the news after his team's 1-1 draw at QPR on Saturday, saying: "He has got a stress fracture in his back, which is a recurring injury from previous,".

Harris added: "That is unfortunate. We're very disappointed to lose him because he is something different from what we have already got in the squad as a very attack-minded full-back."
"He has gone back to Liverpool to be treated in the short-term and mid-term. He is going to be rescanned at six weeks and then we'll have a better idea whether he is going to be back soon after that or going to be an extended period. Anything beyond that is not a discussion at the moment."
Scanlon made his Liverpool debut last October from the bench in the Europa League home win over Toulouse and also featured as a substitute in the defeat at Union Saint-Gilloise two months later. He has twice been in a Premier League matchday squad.
He is one of several young Liverpool players out on loan this season. Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak were among those to move on temporary deals to Red Bull Salzburg and Middlesbrough respectively.
