Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's longtime rival Pep Guardiola is ready to take on the Anfield club for Anthony Gordon's signature.

According to Football Insider, the reigning Premier League champions are ready to rival Liverpool to buy the Newcastle United star. Gordon has landed himself high on Liverpool's summer transfer wish list, with the club set to embark on a new adventure under Arne Slot, who replaced the legendary Klopp this summer.

Gordon, 23, flourished last season at St James' Park, scoring 12 goals in 48 games and earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate's Three Lions and a place in this summer's squad for Euro 2024. However, Gordon hasn't seen much playing time in Germany, as the Three Lions scraped their way to a Euros semi-final, scheduled for Wednesday against the Netherlands.

Man City making a move for Gordon could largely hinge on Jack Grealish's future at the Etihad. Reports suggest that City is willing to listen to offers for the former Aston Villa man, who cost the club $127.9 million in 2021.

Gordon isn't likely to be much cheaper than Grealish, though, as the Magpies paid $57.6m for the player from Everton in January 2023. Newcastle is said to be calm about Gordon's situation, especially after being able to clear the Premier League's June 30 Profit and Sustainability Rules deadline.

And whether Liverpool is willing to part with around $100m, or more, on one player this summer is yet to be seen. The Reds are well stocked on the left-hand side, with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez all capable of playing there. The new boss Slot has big shoes to fill following Klopp's departure. The Dutchman is keen to carry on Klopp's winning culture. “That depends of course on what you define as success,” Slot said.

“Trophies? I think if you work at a club like Liverpool, that’s the aim. The players have that aim, the club has and the fans have. We’re here to win something. We’re here to become better players, to become a better team and as an end result of that, we want to win trophies.”

He added: “We come here on a daily basis because we want to improve and we want to play special games. But we’re here at this level because every player, and the manager as well, have a burning desire inside of him that he wants to win.

"Probably because you want to win so bad, that’s also the reason why you want to improve, if that makes sense.” says: Jack Grealish's time at the Etihad could be coming to an end and Anthony Gordon would be a good pair of fresh legs for the reigning champions. City also has the facilities to splash the cash on Gordon. Liverpool's hand could be forced to make a move this summer if it likes Gordon enough.
