Liverpool fans send clear message to Mohamed Salah as contract saga drags on
Liverpool has named Mohamed Salah as their player of the month for August as the saga around his contract drags on.
The Egyptian forward played a huge part in the Reds strong start to the season, scoring in all three of Liverpool's opening Premier League games. He also picked up an assist against Ipswich in their season opener, as well as two more in the Reds 3-0 win over Manchester United, which actually fell on September 1 rather than August.
Nonetheless however, Salah was on fire during Arne Slot's first three competitive games as Liverpool boss. And in being named Liverpool's player of the month for August, which was voted for by Reds supporters, he beat off competition from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz.

"Winning big games and starting the season well, that's the most important thing for us," Salah said. "I'm always happy to help the team to win the games. It's something special when you win it, especially voted [for] by fans. It's something appreciated a lot and hopefully we keep going like this."
Salah added: "We play very good football and everybody is fighting to win the games. We just need to carry on like that.
"It's still the beginning of the season, so it's still too early. We just try to play our football, the football that we're playing at the moment, we enjoy our game. If we fight and we give everything, that's the most important thing."
It's safe to say judging by the reaction of Liverpool supporters Salah deserved the award, but now plenty of Reds fans want to see the club hand the Egyptian a new contract, with his current deal set to end next summer. "Reward him with whatever contract he wants," wrote one fan on X.
A second added: "Now, renew his contract and give him additional four years." And a third said: "oh p*** off i thought its a contract extension video!!!!"
Earlier this month after the drubbing of Man United, Salah confirmed to Sky Sports he would be treating this season as if it was his last on Merseyside. Salah said: "Honestly I had a good summer, I had a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive. As you know it's my last year in the club.
"I just want to enjoy it and not think about it. I feel I'm free to play football and we'll see what will happen next year.
"I was coming to the game, I said look, it could be the last time [coming to Old Trafford]. Nobody talked to me yet about contracts, so I just play my last season, and we'll see at the end of the season. But so far, yeah, my last game here with Liverpool."
Liverpool.com says: "Liverpool may have been forced into giving Salah a new contract if he continues his strong early performances throughout this season. Despite his age, Salah does not look to have lost his explosiveness and remains a deadly finisher. Those types of players don't grow on trees and ultimately, if he does leave and is still near the peak of his powers, it would cost Liverpool a fortune to replace the Reds star."
