Liverpool are investigating an alleged incident between Wolves defender Jonny and one of the Merseyside club’s ball boys during Sunday’s Premier League fixture.

There are suggestions the Spaniard came into contact with the youngster while trying to retrieve the ball as Wolves sought to salvage the game they lost 1-0.

Such an incident would contravene guidelines as players are under instruction not to come into contact with ball boys. The incident is thought to have occurred in front of the Sir Kenny Dalgish stand.

"The club is aware of the incident and will follow established protocols in terms of gathering the relevant information," Liverpool said in a statement. "While that process takes place we will be making no further comment."

Wolves are aware of the situation but are awaiting further information from the Merseyside club before establishing if it will be taken any further or require their own response.

The matchday ball boys at Anfield tend to come from the club’s Academy.
