The existence of a verbal agreement for Liverpool to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund has been denied from sources within and outside the Bundesliga club.

Bellingham is a top target for Liverpool as they look to evolve their midfield. However, there is a general acceptance that they will not be able to sign him this summer. It has led to claims they could still look to secure a deal in advance.

There has even been talk of a verbal agreement for them to take him from Borussia Dortmund next summer. However, the German giants are denying any decision has been made for a future sale of Bellingham.

Sporting director Sebastien Kehl has told Sky Deutschland: “There is no request for him. Jude is a player who is known across borders. He has a very large market in England particularly.

“But there is nothing that we have to decide at the moment. To be honest, I know that from the player and his family: The boy has absolutely no interest in going anywhere this summer. He will stay with us, I can guarantee that today.”

Bellingham remains under contract until 2025 with Borussia Dortmund. And it is not just the club themselves who are suggesting this isn’t necessarily going to be his last season with them.

Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger told Die Dortmund-Woche: “That (a verbal agreement) is currently not the case. There is no verbal agreement with any club.

“But, of course, Jude Bellingham has attracted a lot of interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool.”

As Berger has alluded to, Liverpool might not necessarily have a clear run at Bellingham if they are to try and sign him next summer. Yet they have been in contact with his agent, Sport1 affirm, on a regular basis recently.

Jude Bellingham could be worth the wait

Whoever gets him will be adding one of Europe’s most promising midfielders to their squad. Bellingham is still only 19 years old, but already has experience in the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund and on the international stage with England.

For now, though, he looks destined to continue in Germany, where he has honed his skills and is becoming a really exciting player.

Liverpool must decide whether or not they can wait until 2023 for Bellingham, or would have to enter the market for someone else in the meantime. They are considering their options, but the prospect of having Bellingham in the future is too good not to keep in mind.

That said, if he keeps developing as he is, he is going to cost a huge sum in the future. No wonder Borussia Dortmund are happy to keep nurturing him as his stock grows.
