Liverpool made aware of growing PSG interest in European target as Jurgen Klopp is forced to make final call
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the upcoming summer window, but they have recently been made aware of PSG’s growing interest in one of their targets.
Missing out on Jude Bellingham has been a blow to Jurgen Klopp and his side going into next season. However, they will now have the opportunity to strengthen several key positions.
While Bellingham was likely to cost in excess of £150million, Liverpool can instead spread their transfer funds across several positions.
There’s no doubt that midfield remains the priority for Liverpool. However, a new centre-half is also a required position to fill in the summer.
AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori has been linked with Liverpool, although they now face stiff competition for his signature from around Europe.
According to Football Italia, the French champions are considering a move for Tomori as they are gearing up for a squad overhaul.
The 25-year-old has started in the majority of league matches of Milan this season. Across his three seasons with the club so far he has racked up 100 appearances.
The Italian club currently sit sixth in the league and risk missing out on Champions League football next season. They do have a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Inter to come, but they have been up and down in the league this year.
Tomori has a deal with the Italian club which runs until the summer of 2027. As Milan hold all of the cards, this would likely be an expensive deal for either PSG or Liverpool.
Liverpool have other targets in mind
While a move for Tomori could prove costly, Liverpool do have some other players in mind. Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has also been a player of interest of late.
Manchester United have also shown an interest in the 21-year-old, as Erik ten Hag has previously worked with the Dutch defender.
Timber can operate at either centre-back or right-back and would be a useful player to Liverpool for this reason.
He would provide healthy competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and the 21-year-old would also push for a starting spot at centre-half.
Klopp’s side have conceded 42 league goals during this campaign, which is already 16 more than they conceded in the entirety of last season.
Liverpool’s league finish will also dictate who they are able to sign. They currently sit fifth in the league and are likely to miss out on Champions League football.
However, they have put a run of form together at the right point of the season. Having won their last five matches, they are one of the form teams in the league.
Although it could be argued that this run of form has come too late in the season. Liverpool are four points behind Man Utd, with Ten Hag’s side having a game in hand.
Liverpool’s remaining fixtures are against Brentford, Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton. The maximum amount of points Liverpool can now finish on is 71 which might not be enough.
