Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has taunted Brazilian teammates Casemiro, Antony and Fred for their decisions to join Manchester United.
The quartet are all in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar, which gets underway on Sunday, with the five-time winners expected to go deep into the competition again.
Fabinho moved to Anfield in 2018 and has played a pivotal role in Jurgen Klopp’s men winning the Champions League, Premier League, Carabao Cup and Super Cup.
The 29-year-old admits he has a good relationship with Casemiro and Antony, who joined United over the summer, despite them playing for Liverpool’s deadly rivals.
The Reds star told UOL: “When I left and saw [Casemiro] winning opportunities at Real [Madrid], I always sent him a congratulatory message.
“Regardless of whether we compete for [the same] position, we get along very well.
“He had already commented that he’d like to play in the Premier League. Too bad he went to the wrong place in England, huh?
“I hope he doesn’t improve Manchester United that much.
“He, Fred [who joined United in 2018] and Antony, there are a lot of Brazilians going to the wrong place in the country!”
Liverpool, United on collision course for Champions League spots
Fabinho has so far featured in all 14 of Liverpool’s Premier League games, although the Reds have struggled domestically.
They currently find themselves sixth in the table, while United are four points above them in fourth.
Liverpool are not back in domestic action until December 22 when they face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup. As for United, they face Burnley in the same competition 24 hours earlier.
As for Brazil’s hopes in Qatar, they face Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G. Their first game in the competition comes against Serbia on Thursday November 24.
