Liverpool have told Bournemouth and Nat Phillips’ other suitors that they will have to pay £15million to sign the defender, according to a report.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a rollercoaster journey at Anfield, but it looks like it will soon come to an end. He has spent the last six months on loan at Bournemouth following an incredible and unexpected Liverpool rise.

However, he does not have a long-term future with the Reds, who are willing to listen to offers for him.

According to the Liverpool Echo, though, they will not let him go without getting £15million.

Phillips has been a fringe player at Liverpool either side of a spell in which he was front and centre of the team.

Following a serious knee injury to Virgil van Dijk, he made his Premier League debut in October 2020.

And after Joe Gomez and Joel Matip suffered their own long-term problems, Phillips’ stock increased.

He led Liverpool to a third-placed Premier League finish, an achievement which Reds boss Jurgen Klopp described as one of his greatest in management given the circumstances.

Klopp therefore recently paid tribute to Phillips after Liverpool reached the Champions League final this season.

However, Phillips lost his place as the senior trio returned to action. As such, he only played three times before January this year, when he moved to Bournemouth.

Bournemouth add to Nat Phillips stock

The defender played 17 of the Cherries’ final 18 Championship games of the season to finish off their successful promotion charge.

That has now opened up a range of opportunities for Phillips to restart his career elsewhere.

The Liverpool Echo does not name the other clubs keen on the player, but Watford and Leicester reportedly had approaches rejected on deadline day in January.

Newcastle have also had links with the centre-back in the past as they look to beef up their defence.

Phillips will be remembered by Liverpool

Wherever Phillips ends up this summer, his contributions will not be forgotten by Liverpool.

Klopp even once compared his development as a player to that of Robert Lewandowski at Borussia Dortmund.

However, his time has come to properly forge a career elsewhere.

And given Bournemouth won promotion to the Premier League, a permanent move to the Cherries would be perfect for him.

Phillips has built up strong relationships with his team-mates there and would enjoy more top-flight experiences.
