Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay the £42.5million release clause for Barcelona star Gavi, amid interest in a club-record Darwin Nunez deal.

The Reds are facing a busy summer transfer window on a number of fronts as Jurgen Klopp looks to evolve his team. Most of the talk has been about departures – namely 120-goal forward Sadio Mane.

Liverpool are consequently looking for his replacement and are pulling no punches with interest in Nunez. Klopp’s side have reportedly structured a deal worth £85million and are looking to wrap the move up.

But midfield remains an area of concern at Anfield without any players leaving.

According to La Porteria, though, Klopp wants to address those worries by landing Barca star Gavi.

The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects in European football following his recent rise. However, with his current deal running out next summer, uncertainty is lingering over his future.

What’s more, his current terms contain a €50million release clause which Liverpool are reportedly ready to activate.

The report claims that Gavi has ‘at least’ two offers from the Premier League on the table, one of which is from the Reds. He has also had an offer to renew from Barca, but he and his father have instantly rejected the proposal.

The La Liga side reportedly offered to increase his €1million per season salary to €2million. Gavi, though, wants a €4million yearly salary as a starting point.

Indeed, from there, the teenager supposedly wants his earnings to increase to €5million in the second year and to €6million after three years.

But Liverpool have made it clear that they would trump all those figures with a starting salary of €9million (£7.6million) per season.

For now, though, Gavi and his father are reportedly determined to thrash out an agreement with Barcelona.

There is every chance the player could emulate legendary Barca midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta given his current trajectory.

Barc star has bright future

The 17-year-old has a bright future ahead of him but has already made headlines and set a number of records.

Last Sunday, he became Spain’s youngest-ever goalscorer at 17 years and 304 with his strike against the Czech Republic.

Before then, he made himself Barcelona’s third-youngest goalscorer and is the fourth youngest player to feature for the club.

He also holds the record for being the youngest player to earn their first Spain cap.

The transfer interest in him is therefore understandable and his contract situation is one to watch. Keep hold of him and Barcelona could have a generational star on their hands.

Lose him, though, and it could turn out to be a major loss for the La Liga club.
