According to reports, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have both submitted ‘offers’ to Spanish giants Barcelona for midfielder Franck Kessie.

The Ivory Coast international was a huge asset for AC Milan between 2017 and 2022. He made over 200 appearances for the Italian giants and he helped them win the Serie A title in 2021/22.

Kessie was out of contract last summer and he was snapped up by Barcelona. This move came about after Man Utd and Spurs expressed interest in the defensive midfielder.

The 26-year-old won the La Liga title during his debut season in Spain but he was only used sparingly by head coach Xavi. He only started seven times for Barcelona in the league.

His position at Barcelona has fuelled talk that he could secure a move to the Premier League this summer. Earlier this week, it was claimed that Liverpool have joined Inter Milan in the race for the midfielder.

A fresh report from Spanish outlet AS claims Kessie is ‘on his way out’ of Barcelona as he has ‘given the okay’ to leave the La Liga outfit.

Kessie ‘has had a conversation with Xavi’, who ‘explained the problems and conditions that have forced the club to make this decision’ and the player has ‘resignedly accepted the coach’s arguments’.

Barcelona ‘seek a minimum of 35 million euros and they already have several offers’ for Kessie’s services. The report claims Liverpool, Tottenham and Inter Milan have made moves for him ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

This news comes after it was confirmed by several outlets that Liverpool are set to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

The World Cup winner emerged as Liverpool’s top target after the Premier League side dropped out of the race for Real Madrid-bound Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool will benefit from a clause in Mac Allister’s contract that will let him leave Brighton for just £35m.

Liverpool legend John Barnes thinks Mac Allister will “go straight into the team” next season.

“I think Alexis Mac Allister will come with a huge reputation and expectation to be a starter. When you’re signing a midfield player like him, they’re going to go straight into the team,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

“If we sign a forward, then he may have to fight for his place unless he’s the best forward in the world. But in the midfield, if it’s a player you want, he’s going to go straight into the team, a hundred percent.

“Be it Caicedo, Declan Rice, be it any of them. I don’t think they’re going to sign midfield players to be part of the squad. Whereby if they sign a wide player, you could say that he’d be a squad player. If they’re signing a midfield player, he’s going to go straight into the team.”
