Liverpool player ratings as Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota excellent against Sevilla
Welcome to Anfield, Arne Slot. The Dutchman experienced his new home for the first time as Liverpool head coach as his side earned an impressive 4-1 victory over Sevilla in their penultimate pre-season friendly.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring with a fine volley, Luis Diaz netted twice and teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni came off the bench to score as the Reds routed their Spanish opponents.
The ECHO was in attendance and have run the rule over Slot's players. And here is how they were rated.
Raced out of his area to clear one ball first half and dealt with two comfortable efforts after the break. Subbed.
Delivered a few teasing crosses when not kept busy defensively and pinpoint cross for Jota to score the opener. Began drifting into central midfield second half. Subbed.
Coughed up a chance with a heavy touch but didn’t let it affect an otherwise solid showing.
Strolled through the game with Liverpool largely in possession. Sent free header at goalkeeper second half. Subbed.
Offered himself regularly down the left flank and caused some problems with deliveries from out wide in first half in particular.
Slight mixed bag as part of the double pivot, losing possession on occasion, but began to grow into the role towards half-time. Subbed.
Alexis Mac Allister 6
Kept things simple on the left of the midfield two on his first appearance of pre-season. Subbed.
Wide with one trademark curler first half after coming in off the right flank and always a threat when racing on to long passes. Held ball up well to initiate third goal, and almost snatched goal in closing moments.
Playing in the number 10 position, was off the pace for far too long until breaking into space and laying on the third. Quiet second half, however.
Luis Diaz 8
Caused problems by continually running at defenders, which earned the reward of Liverpool’s well-taken second goal. Then in position to tap home the third. Good showing. Subbed.
Diogo Jota 8
Hustled and bustled as the central striker, taking his volleyed opener brilliantly then releasing Diaz for the second and involved in build-up for third. Back to his best.
