Mohamed Salah was the hero as Liverpool came from behind to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Salah struck an equaliser in the second half before notching a penalty as the Reds earned a dramatic 3-2 win at rock-bottom Southampton.

Arne Slot's side had gone ahead through a Dominik Szoboszlai strike only for Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes to scored either side of half-time during a match that was played in occasionally atrocious conditions.

The ECHO was at St Mary's and here we run the rule over the performances of the Liverpool players.

Caoimhin Kelleher 7

Fine stop to deny Downes and unlucky his penalty save fell straight back at Armstrong to equalise. No chance with Southampton second and otherwise unemployed.

Conor Bradley 7

Spent much of the game on the offensive and linked well with Salah down the right. Real purpose to his play. Booked.

Ibrahima Konate 6

Not always the most comfortable playing out from back in blustery conditions and survived penalty call early on. Booked.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Had his physical might tested by Onuachu before break but was cruising through before mindless ball into midfield prompted Southampton leveller. Resumed level after that.

Andy Robertson 5

Inconsistent delivery from crosses and jumped into tackles a bit too readily, leading to his foul on Dibling which was adjudged inside the area. Tough afternoon defensively.

Ryan Gravenberch 8

Soon got to grips with the game and heavily involved as Liverpool dominated possession first half. Stepped up when Reds went behind and pass sent Salah away for equaliser.

Curtis Jones 6

Began to grow in prominence as Liverpool dominated possession before the interval and pressing helped create opener but tired after break. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 8

On the periphery for large periods first half but still managed to test McCarthy several times. More of a threat after break and took second goal so well before winning and netting penalty. Booked.

Dominik Szoboszlai 8

Led the Liverpool press, used ball well, had some shots and curled in a fine finish for the opening goal. Energy and work-rate made such a difference.

Darwin Nunez 6

Attempted to link play during opening period but got a little lost among all the Southampton defenders. Almost created chance for Diaz after good run second half. Subbed.

Cody Gakpo 6

Another who started slowly but began to become a threat off the left, but too many lazy crosses second half. Booked and subbed.

SUBS

Luis Diaz (for Gakpo 62) 8

Almost scored with his first touch and so important in driving Liverpool forward in final hour.

Alexis Mac Allister (for Jones 62) 6

Kept things simple in midfield.

Wataru Endo (for Nunez 89)

Did one nice turn.
