Michael Carrick has confirmed that Liverpool have the option to recall Ben Doak from his loan spell at Middlesbrough in the January transfer window - but revealed that the clause does not last the entire month. Scotland international Doak, 19, joined Boro on a season-long loan in August and has been one of the standout performers for Carrick's side, who are eyeing promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Liverpool have rejected bids from Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town this month for Doak, prompting speculation that the forward could be recalled from his loan at the Riverside if the Reds receive a suitable offer this month. But despite confirming that Liverpool have the option to recall Doak this month, Carrick said he is "pretty calm" about the situation because the Reds' recall clause expires sometime before the window shuts on February 3.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday ahead of his side's Championship clash against West Brom provided an update on the Scot's future at the Riverside. “There is a cut-off point,” confirmed Carrick. “There’s something in place that means it’s not to the end of the window with Ben. It’s not something that will run until then.

“It doesn’t go up to that point. A lot of loans have that kind of arrangement in place, and it’s something that is there. There’s nothing changing with that situation, genuinely. There’s nothing changed there, and we’re pretty calm about things.”

Earlier this month, the ECHO reported that Liverpool have no intention of allowing Doak to leave on a permanent basis this month. The 19-year-old has scored has notched eight goal contributions in 22 Championship games for Boro this term while also becoming a regular for Scotland.
