Liverpool's reported squad value has only further highlighted Arne Slot's remarkable work at Anfield this season.

The Reds have won nine out of 10 games in all competitions and sit top of the Premier League ahead of title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal. Furthermore, they are fifth in the new 36-team Champions League table having won both their and have secured progression to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

It may only be the early stages of the new campaign but the signs are already there that Liverpool's new manager has taken to the role like a duck to water - and that's without splashing the cash during the transfer window.

That lack of summer spending, though, has contributed to Liverpool missing out on a place in the top five of most valuable squads in world football. Instead, the Reds fall to a measly sixth, with figures compiled by the CIES Football Observatory claiming Liverpool has a squad value of $1.2billion (£920m/€1.1bn).

This places it behind Real Madrid ($1.9bn), Man City ($1.6bn), Chelsea ($1.5bn), Arsenal ($1.3bn) and Barcelona ($1.2bn), with Liverpool's value impacted by the expiring contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Nonetheless, the Reds still rank as one of the highest in the world and it's no surprise given the vast array of talent on show throughout the squad. However, it still doesn't compare to Premier League title rivals Man City and Arsenal, along with Champions League hopefuls Real Madrid.

Despite this, Liverpool sits above both Man City and Arsenal - as well as Chelsea - in the Premier League standings, as well as in the Champions League table. In fact, the Reds are also ahead of La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in the 36-team league, who have both lost away to French opposition.

During the summer, Liverpool spent just $13m (£10m/€12m) on one signing - Italian winger Federico Chiesa. In comparison, Man City spent $43.7m (£33.7m/€40m), Arsenal spent $119m (£91/€109m) and Real Madrid spent $54m (£41m/€49m).

While none of those three sides really went above and beyond with their spending ahead of the new campaign, they brought in shrewd additions which contributed heavily to their overall squad value. Real Madrid, for example, signed Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer.

Should Liverpool finish above both Man City and Arsenal in the Premier League this season, or defeat Real Madrid in the Champions League, potentially lifting both trophies, it would be quite the feat for Slot in his first season as Reds boss.
