Ibrahim Konate was spotted surprising local children in Paris as he celebrated his birthday at the weekend.

The Liverpool star turned 25 on Saturday and before linking up with the France squad ahead of this summer's Euro 2024, he took time off in his hometown. He hosted a crossbar challenge with some children with the winners gifted a 'Konate 5' shirt.

Konate captured the occasion on an Instagram live as many people watched from outside of the court. Two youngsters were the lucky winners after hitting the crossbar and later posing for a picture with the defender holding the Liverpool shirt.

It wasn't the first time the 25-year-old returned to the place where he began life as a footballer with his Liverpool unveiling video filmed in Paris back in 2021. "I played in the cages like most young Parisians," he previously told the Guardian.

"We couldn’t get to see football in proper stadiums, we didn’t have the money. And we didn’t play on proper pitches, because we didn’t have those opportunities. But we found ways to play football whenever and wherever we could.

"At school we used Sellotape and paper to make footballs to play with, and we were happy playing in the streets. If it was a ball made out of foam or leather or plastic it would keep us busy all day.

"We’d play in the street, in the cages, me and my brothers, and that’s why I think we have these qualities."

The Frenchman made 22 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season and was named as an unused substitute in the last four games of the season.
