Liverpool midfielder Fabinho claims Casemiro, Fred and Antony shouldn’t have moved to Man Utd as they are in the “wrong place”.

Casemiro moved to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window for £70m from Real Madrid, while Antony swapped Ajax for the Red Devils in an £86m deal as the duo linked up with compatriot Fred.

Despite the Cristiano Ronaldo circus, Man Utd have made a solid start to the new season, bouncing back from back-to-back defeats in their first two Premier League matches under Erik ten Hag to win eight of their next 12 fixtures.

They are currently sitting in fifth place, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand, and Man Utd are now well placed to have a good push for Champions League qualification in the second half of the season.

Man Utd are also four points ahead of arch-rivals Liverpool – who finished second in the Premier League last season – but Fabinho is claiming that Casemiro, Fred and Antony are all at the “wrong” club.

Fabinho said on World Cup duty for Brazil: “When I left and saw him (Casemiro) winning opportunities at Real, I always sent him a congratulatory message. Regardless of whether we compete for position, we get along very well.

“He had already commented that he’d like to play in the Premier League. Too bad he went to the wrong place in England, huh?

“I hope he doesn’t improve Manchester United that much. He, Fred, Antony, there are a lot of Brazilians going to the wrong place in the country.”

Casemiro has made a huge difference to Man Utd since moving to Old Trafford in the summer with the defensive midfielder bringing control to the Red Devils engine room.

Former Man Utd striker Dwight Yorke reckons Casemiro brings the “X-factor” to the current side. Yorke told Lord Ping: “Firstly, he brings a winning mentality into the dressing room.

“Sometimes these understated players don’t get the recognition, but he gives the players with the X factor the opportunity to shine because he is so disciplined and selfless as a player.

“He was the cornerstone of a dominant Real Madrid team for the last five seasons, and you don’t play in that team if you don’t have ability.

“The more you see him play, the more you understand why he has been brought into the team.

“He gives the team balance with the role that he plays. He knows his strengths, what his weaknesses are, and you stick to those.

“He keeps it simple. He does his job extremely well and he’s a calming influence.”
