Mo Salah is an idol to all Liverpool and Egypt fans at the moment but who are his own idols? Well, now the Liverpool star has revealed who he looked up to growing up.

Salah has been a revelation at Anfield this season, scoring 43 goals in all competitions after joining from Roma for £40m last summer, and alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino forming a deadly partnership up top.

That trio’s goals have taken Liverpool to their first Champions League final in 11 years, as they knocked out Salah’s former side Roma in the semi-finals this week.

Salah’s year in Rome helped him rejuvenate his career after a failed move to Chelsea in 2011 saw the Basel star’s rise stall somewhat, and he is still a crowd favourite at the Stadio Olimpico.

He scored 19 times there last season having signed permanently from the Blues after scored 15 in 41 the previous year on loan, following a successful temporary spell at Fiorentina the previous campaign.

And it turns out a former Roma team-mate of his is one of the footballing icons Salah looks up to.

Speaking to CNN’s Inside the Middle East Salah revealed the two players he takes inspiration from as: “I say before many times, the Brazilian Ronaldo…and Totti. He’s unbelievable he’s quality. As a person too he’s quality.

“He’s calm, great great, very quiet and the confidence about him. I learnt a lot from him.”
