Liverpool Submit £30m Bid for South American Hotshot Luan

Liverpool have made a transfer bid worth £30m for Gremio striker Luan, the Telegraph have reported.

The Reds recently sold Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace, and started the 1-1 draw at Tottenham with Roberto Firmino playing in a striking role, with Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge featuring from the bench.

Brazilian radio station Futebol da Gaucha claim that the Anfield club have moved ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race to sign the Brazilian, who featured for Brazil for his country's Olympic football team during the summer.

Gremio vice-president Alberto Guerra stated last week that the club would consider all offers when they were tabled.

"Every good player is targeted. If a proposal arrives, we will analyse," he confirmed.

A deal for Luan could prove potentially difficult, however, as Gremio reportedly only hold 70% of the Brazilian's economic rights.

After the sale of Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could bring Luan in to provide competition for the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, although neither are yer to confirm themselves as the club's elite striker.

Sturridge has played just over an hour of Premier League football for Liverpool during their first three matches, starting the 2-0 loss at Burnley, while Origi has made three substitute appearances during the Merseyside club's mixed start to the season.

23-year-old Luan has been with Gremio since 2014, making 147 appearances and scoring 38 goals. He was selected for the Olympic team, winning a gold medal and scoring in victories in the quarter-final match against Colombia and during Brazil's 6-0 semi-final final thrashing of Honduras.
