The cousin of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has confirmed that the midfielder is “close” to signing for Liverpool.

Mac Allister has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this season as he has helped Brighton to qualify for the Europa League.

The midfielder has emerged as one of Roberto De Zerbi’s leading performers as he has grabbed ten goals and two assists in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old is also now a World Cup winner as he played a vital role for Argentina as they went all the way in the winter to win the competition for the third time.

Liverpool have identified Mac Allister as one of their main targets ahead of this summer. They are looking to sign two or three midfielders and the Brighton man looks set to be their first addition.

Earlier this week, Football Insider reported that Liverpool have activated Mac Allister’s release clause in his contract and the Merseysiders will pay Brighton ‘between £55-60million for his services’.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims Liverpool’s “only concern” is if “another suitor comes in” for Mac Allister and “creates competition”.

Liverpool’s only concern is obviously that another suitor comes in and creates a complication, which is again why they’re trying to be as fast as they possibly can because it’s obvious that Mac Allister has had an outstanding season and was brilliant at the World Cup,” Jacobs told Football FanCast.

“There’s been rumblings of Chelsea because of the Pochettino factor, but Chelsea, prior to Pochettino, had other targets; they’ve really moved away from Mac Allister and more towards Caicedo.

“If they pivot and there is a surprise, it will very much be Pochettino-led, but at the moment, Liverpool feel that they’re in control of the situation.”

And now Mac Allister’s cousin – Luciano Guaycochea – has indicated that “everyone knows” his move to Liverpool is “close”.

“I cannot say where he’s going to play, but I think everyone knows it’s close, to Liverpool,” Guaycochea said in an interview with Astro Arena.

“It’s a big team, but everywhere he goes, I hope he can play well.”

Mac Allister recently explained why he is “very calm” about his situation as he really “enjoys” playing for Brighton.

“I am very calm because I also have the possibility of being in a club like Brighton that accompanied me at all times and in which I enjoy being very much,” Mac Allister said.

“If I do not have to leave the club I will continue very happy there, but I am aware that there will be possibilities and if a good offer arrives for the club and for me we will evaluate it.”
