Liverpool tipped to complete ‘fascinating plot twist’ in hijacking Man Utd for star midfield transfer
Dean Jones feels that Liverpool could complete a “fascinating plot twist” by signing Sofyan Amrabat ahead of Manchester United, as “there could be something” in their links to him.
Liverpool have been bullied out of a couple of transfers of late. Their desperation to sign a top new midfielder after losing five players in the position this summer saw them overbid for Moises Caicedo, agreeing a £110million deal with Brighton for the transfer.
But Caicedo only wanted to join Chelsea, and served a kick in the teeth to the Reds when he turned them down. The Romeo Lavia situation was similar: they attempted to overpay, but again saw Chelsea swoop and they’re soon to sign the midfielder.
As such, the Reds remain on the lookout for a star midfielder. They’ve landed on Manchester United target Amrabat, and Fabrizio Romano has stated they “have made contact” despite the fact he wants to join the Red Devils.
Jones feels Liverpool could change their fortunes by sensationally hijacking United given they’re moving slowly, rather that being the side who lose out this time.
“If they make moves here, it would be another fascinating plot twist as they try to hijack another rival,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.
“I was very sceptical at first of the Amrabat links, but there could be something in this.
“There have been moves to understand what he is looking for in his next club, whether there is still a possibility he considers new options, and, right now, he seems a bit in limbo because Man Utd are not in the position they expected to be to sign him.”
It would be a statement if Liverpool were able to flex their muscles on this one. They’ve been kicked around by Chelsea of late, who finished 12th in the Premier League last season.
They’d let themselves and the rest of the league know they’re still a powerhouse if they were to beat rival juggernaut United to the signing of a player they have wanted all summer.
The Reds are also soon to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart. He’s not a household name, but their desperation to land a midfielder has led them to him.
Jones feels that move is a great one for them, so they’d be back to winning ways off the field if they were to get Amrabat too.
“Liverpool have pulled one out of the bag with the Endo signing. Again, they were working in the dark to produce a transfer that no one saw coming,” Jones added.
“But this is a player used to life at the bottom end of the Bundesliga, not the top end of the Premier League, and I do not believe their work is done in terms of recruitment. Another midfielder will come in.”
