Liverpool has been tipped to revive its interest in a Mohamed Salah replacement despite signing Federico Chiesa this summer.

The Reds signed the Italian winger from Juventus for a cut-price fee as extra back-up to the Egyptian for this season and despite signing him to a long-term deal with a potential view to become Salah's long-term replacement, another addition could yet come through the door.

With Salah yet to commit his long-term future to the club as he runs down his current deal, it appears Liverpool is preparing for the worst by considering further reinforcements to make up for the 32-year-old's potential absence next season.

According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool is considering an early move for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, who has become the star man in west London following Ivan Toney's departure to Saudi Arabia this summer.

Since signing for the Bees from French outfit Troyes in August 2019, the 25-year-old has notched 53 goals and 42 assists in 203 appearances across all competitions, playing a major role in helping Thomas Frank's side earn promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

In the last two seasons, Mbeumo has found the back of the net nine times on each occasion and is already well on his way to surpassing that record following three goals in Brentford's first three games of the 2024-25 campaign.

And it is that early season form which has stoked the fire once more with regards to a transfer for Mbeumo, who is currently valued at in excess of $52 million (£40m/€47m) by his current club, according to reports elsewhere.

While this is more than affordable for a club like Liverpool, Give Me Sport also claims the Reds must fight off competition from Newcastle United and Arsenal if it wishes to capture the Cameroon international next summer. And it will have to be next summer, with Football Insider claiming the west London outfit has no intention of selling Mbeumo in the January transfer window, amid interest from top six clubs.

Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are also believed to be among the interested parties, with the latter even seeing an offer of around $33 million (£25m/€30m) rejected earlier in the summer. However, Mbeumo is believed to be keen on making a big move to a more established top club, with Liverpool being a potential destination.

While Mbeumo would no doubt be a good signing for anybody, Liverpool don't need him for the time being, and especially if Salah remains at Anfield past the end of the current season. Chiesa is already a great back-up for the Egyptian, although a lot can change in 12 months.

The Italian is aiming to make his debut this weekend when Liverpool welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield on Saturday, although Arne Slot is likely to stick with the same side which has won the opening three games of the new season - meaning Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz will all retain their places in the front three.
