Liverpool have been informed that Benfica forward Darwin Nunez is a “Jurgen Klopp-type player” amid reports suggesting that he could replace Sadio Mane.
The 22-year-old was in sensational form for Benfica during the 2021/22 campaign. He netted 34 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.
His form has led to reports linking him with a move to the Premier League. The likes of Arsenal, Man Utd and Newcastle are understood to be admirers of him.
It has been claimed that Man Utd have ‘launched a £90m bid’ to sign Nunez this summer.
Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign the striker. He is being earmarked as a replacement for Bayern Munich-linked Sadio Mane.
Danny Murphy has spoken on reports linking Liverpool with Nunez. The former England midfielder thinks the “dynamic” forward would suit Klopp’s style of play at Anfield:
“I watched him three times in the space of six weeks. One thing I really liked about him was that he is dynamic,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
“He’s a very Klopp-type player with high energy, both with and without the ball. He doesn’t mind a press and saw him running back a few times.
“When he hasn’t got the ball, he doesn’t mind running in behind. He’s more of a number nine, he’s not going to play out wide.”
Elsewhere, according to reports, Leeds United Raphinha has ‘parked a succulent offer’ from Liverpool. Barcelona are very keen to sign him this summer.
The La Liga giants are struggling to meet Leeds United’s £60m valuation. It was revealed on Sunday that Liverpool were ‘willing’ to offer Takumi Minamino to Leeds in a part-exchange for Raphinha.
Spanish outlet Sport are reporting that ‘Raphinha and Deco (his agent) have parked the succulent offer that has come to them from Anfield’.
This is because Raphinha ‘prioritises’ a move to Barcelona ‘over any club’. This is even with him being ‘chosen by Jurgen Klopp’ to replace Bayern Munich-linked Sadio Mane.
Liverpool have ‘much more financial muscle’ than Barcelona, but the Leeds star has ‘already deactivated their offensive network’.
